Orkney, klerksdorp Trails help please?

I am going to be working a few months in Orkney starting next week, the only neighbouring town is klerksdorp.

 

Can anyone recommend a trail or two for me to pass the days with (my work will be taking place at night...)

you working at the ashanti vaal reef mine?

 

the main prob is that a bunch of the trails around there are on mine property and the security gets rather grumpy if you ride out there!

Thanks for that advice, don't want that! I see there are tons of options when you go into klerksdorp but its a little far, would prefer finding something closer to orkney...

I was there a few weeks ago. Found a leker route. If you ride out of Orkney towards Bothaville. A kilo or so over the Vaal there is a turn off left with a sign Stokkiesdraai I think. Take that turn off. Just follow the tar road until you reach a T junction (probably about 5km) At the T junction go straight over onto the dirt road. You can ride for hours on that road and other gravel roads. I eventually rode past a lion farm with the biggest white lion male I have ever seen. You eventually reach a low bridge over the Vaal again and if you follow that road you come out in Stilfontein. You can catch a dirt road back to Orkney or Klerksdorp from there.

i have a 60 km route out at klerksdorp. from the main road turn on Wessel street northbound. there is a garage about 3 km out on the left. park there. ride out of town on wessel turn right at about 4 km on the dirt road. this goes past klerksdorp dam up to brakfontein. flat and fast i love it.
