Sizing?

I was looking at new bikes yesterday. I am looking at replacing my 29 HT (size medium) with a dual suspension 26 or 29.

 

I am not looking for another 26 v 29 debate, but I have a question regarding sizes: One of the shops I visited told me that I should be on a medium 26 or on a small 29. The other shop told me that a medium is a medium - makes no difference if its 26 or 29 and I should be on a medium.

 

So, answer me this: who is correct? Does wheel size affect the frame size you ride?

Medium is a medium is a medium...........although, sizes do tend to vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. A 29er has bigger wheels, not bigger frames (except to accomodate the larger wheels)

Actually, now that I think about it that makes no sense. Once my feet are off the ground the wheel size is meaningless and a medium is a medium is a medium

TT length and headset and seattube angle are the importnat measurements

I thought that size doesn't matter... It's what you do with it that counts.
