Need some advice and/or help:

Bought my 2012 silverback stride 10 less than a month ago and lately been getting this annoying rubbing sound on the rear wheel whenever spinning. sounds like metal on metal rub and gets louder the faster the wheel spins. I've checked the brakes and reset them. Even went as far as to remove the caliper and spin the wheel without it and the noise still there. Only way i can describe the noise is sort of like when a car bearing is busted...whump whump sound(not dubstep). is there when pedalling and just spinning.

Any ideas what it could be and what to do?

JUst got my bike back had an issue with the rear hub , the hub needed to be serviced . Silverback comes with a 3 months original parts warentee so if the bike is still new they will fix at no cost .If not just a hub service if thats the problem.

Do you have some play when moving the back wheel side to side ?

Got the bike back today and it seems to be ok. haven't gone for a proper ride yet but will update. they serviced the rear hub.

Yes they are alex rims...are these problematic?

I think its the hubs that are the problem and not the Alex rims?

Don't understand why the hubs would be a problem as the bike is practically new. Should I get new hubs? Recommendations for decent ones that aren't worth more than the bike?

Hopefully the bearings just need a service. What hubs are they?

shimano RM35 center lock

Those hubs consist of bearings running in a loose adjustable cone and a race pressed into the hub. They must be serviced by greasing and adjusted at regular intervals. It is a fairly simple task if you have the correct tools. Search the internet or buy a book like the Park Big Blue Book of Bicycle Repairs to teach you how to do it.
