Hi there was topic about this, but can't find it. Is the trails still open and where does it start? Don't want to ride the tar....

It is still open - road it on Monday.

Easiest to explain is from SWest: take the Eikendal road up to Longridge and follow the yellow arrows. Ends at Stellenzicht on the Blaawklippen road. Search Helderberg mountainbike route.

There are a few marked routes: Green - easy, yellow - most direct, blue - bit more difficult and black - even more. I believe the idea with the yellow route was to get a fairly direct route between Stb and Swest.

Ok cool, is it quite easy to find the arrows from stellies side?

Thanks for the info

Go up Blaawklippen into Stellenzicht (last farm before the gravel road starts).

If you want to cut out the R44, the Helderberg trails are now marked on the western side of the R44 (between Annondale road and Waterstone) and cuts out all of the R44. I like to ride from Stellenbosch, through Eden - towards the mountain on the Blaauwklippen road - it then becomes a dirtroad - cut through the farms onto the Annondale road - cross the R44 at the robot - onto western Helderberg trail - ends at Waterstone village. It not the straightest/shortest route but it cuts out the R44 completely.

Hey Slowness....

I took a ride on Sunday afternoon up to reservoir/waterworks...picked up a new "blue" marked route that basically rides on the Ct side of the waterworks...intersecting with a yellow marked route on the S-west side of the waterworks...this is FAR from the yellow route on the mountain side of R44...that you refer to...

When are we going to "explore" some of these routes together??

Lemme know...I need some company!!

Quite difficult to navigate tho , the routes are not marked that clearly , just follow you instinct ( or the R44 and the mountain) you can't get that lost!

The Wannabee's have been very active on getting land access in the area, the trails at the waterworks is an extension of the trail on the Western side of the R44 AKA Helderberg Cycle Route. I use the Western side on a regular basis commuting to work...no better way to start the day!

Patensie what time do you leave SSW? I usually leave Steynsrust 6H15 and it gives me plenty of time but I R44 it as far as the Eikendal Road.

I do the same from Helena Heights.
