  1. Does hiking count? Durston X-mid 2. Been eyeing this tent for a while. Ordered Tuesday, landed today. Awesome service by Kaviso
  2. I use an orange 2003 Camelbak Mule that just wont die. I think I replaced the bladder once #Milton. For shorter rides, I prefer my hip pack, a Camelbak Repack.
  3. Has anyone tried Microshift Advent X 10 speed groupset? If I could find stock last year, I would've taken the gamble.
  4. Was married to a redhead....🙄 I prefer my Cane Creek
  5. Didn't use the bike, but did a solo overnight hike on Stellenbosch Mountain
  6. My first choice will be: https://www.marinobike.com/product/custom-hardtail-mtb-bike-frame/ and get them to custom build a frame to your specific geometry requirements using standards that will accept the parts from your current bike (seat-post diameter, headtube length, wheel spacing, etc.) And then solid alternatives: https://www.cotic.co.uk/product/BFeMAX (they have small frames available) https://production-privee.com/collections/frames/products/shan-gt-explorer-frame https://www.pipedreamcycles.com/products/frames/ (The Moxies are LOOOONG) https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/FROOBD/on-one-big-dog-29-mountain-bike-frame You can also look at which Chromag frames are available on Jenson USA.
  7. On-one Hello Dave, et al Marino Bike - custom geo handmade in Peru,https://www.marinobike.com/product/custom-hardtail-mtb-bike-frame/ (From $280) Pipedreams, and Production Privee might be north of your budget,,, But I've also seen some Cromags within budget on JensenUSA (https://www.jensonusa.com/Chromag-Wideangle-Frame-2021)
  8. Thanks! Coming from an artist like you, that's a huge compliment. I just mikked and drukked 🙂
  9. At 158 he might just fit on an older model medium Santa Cruz Bronson. My GF fits on my Medium SC 5010 (2015 model) with the 125mm dropper slammed. She's about 160. Ibis caters for smaller riders as well.
  10. Also check Marino bike for a custom built frame. I've seen a Marino full suspension in Jonkers and it looks GOOD. Don't think you can beat the value from them. Might be a bit of a wait. https://www.marinobike.com/product/custom-hardtail-mtb-bike-frame/
  11. Agreed. I, a hobbit, was in the never 29er camp. My new bike is a long travel trail 29er, but corners better than my 2015 Santa Cruz 5010 650b. And it's poppy and fun. My laaitie will probably fit on it before he's tall enough to stand over on the 5010. But... I'd like to ride an up to date geo 650b at some point again, maybe a transition scout. Just to compare.
  12. Another spanner in the works: "Huur gaat voor koop." Once registration is complete, you will not be able to cancel an existing rental agreement(s), but you will have the right to receive rent as owner of the property. But that is my memory from 1996 property law. How this will work in practice with occupational interest is quite interesting????‍♂️... Ping Harryn...
  13. VAT is calculated on the Customs value of the item, which is purchase price plus 10%. Effectively this boils down to VAT at 16.5%. Full bikes adds another 15% in customs duties. Effectively this adds 32%. In other words, for components, the sum = price X 1.165 and for bikes = price x 1.32. This does not include handling and clearance fees. The duties on clothing are prohibitive (but that is my opinion). Morne's "boeresom" of adding 25% makes absolute sense as it covers VAT, clearance fees and probable differences in exchange rates.
  14. My ex-wife's favourite colour is purple. She hates orange. I love orange. That should have been a sign...????
  15. Have you tried to contact the National Wool Growers Association? https://www.nwga.co.za/ They used to stock some products at their branches when I audited them back in 2002... but those were mostly jerseys, etc.
  16. The Highlander is here after months of patient waiting! I took it on a shakedown ride last Friday night at G Spot and the all the tech sections in Stellenboschberg and then did a proper ride in Jonkershoek on Saturday morning. I really love this bike for my type of riding, which is not fast, but I enjoy technical riding. Quick review: This thing really climbs well., You wont win xc hill climbs on, but the traction is incredible. I haven't played around with the suspension. Just got the sag about right and rode it in factory settings. The bike feels really good. Poppy and lively yet it soaks the hits, big and small. It turns well and I made the tighter switchbacks with ease. This was a bit of a worry coming from a relatively short bike (2015 Santa Cruz 5010 650B). The Highlander handled everything I threw at it. It coaxes me to ride faster and to ignore the brakes. I reckon the geo is spot on. I'm VERY happy that I scratched the midlife itch with this purchase???????? ???? (Pity about the overcast day and that I didn't catch Jonkershoek in all its splendour)
  17. I put the derailleur on before watching a tutorial on YouTube...???? fixed it after taking the pic????
  18. I will try that on my next wild camp. But as Rusty said, get something with an R-rating. They are not that much heavier. In my case it was goedkoop koop is duur koop ????
  19. This is my dream bike packing tent: https://www.nemoequipment.com/product/dragonfly-bikepack/
  20. Consider getting an insulated sleeping pad. They're a bit heavier, but, I think, worth it. I got a non-insulated sleeping pad (similar to what you're looking at) and the ground sucks up all the heat you generate. Not even a proper down sleeping bag could make up for it. That was a cold night on top Stellenbosch mountain.
