the last couple of months I get frequent headaches when training...this has never happened before. Does anyone why or have an idea what can cause this?

I am no expert but another thing that it may be is a weak upper body. Continuous tension in your muscles will cause you to get back, neck pain and headaches whilst training.

If your blood pressure is Ok try doing some push ups and sit ups to increase your upper body strength and see if this helps.

hi muxman...dont think it is a weak upper body..I do core and strength training for about 20minutes after each workout on the trainer

What causes high blood pressure?

Watch that you don't eat to little when training.

I found everytime i dieet or detox i get headaches when training, with the headaches you will also feel the body is taking more punishment than normal, as i guess it requires something that you are now without knowing taking away..........are you eating less or on any dieet?

Another suggestion for the list of things to try...

Headaches are one of the symptoms of dehydration and heat exhaustion. I find I get them on really hot rides and when I don't drink enough. They usually start towards the end or after the ride though.

There can be many reasons as some of the past posts Amoryn, from something as simple as a poor fitting helmet to something as serious as high blood pressure or arterial blockages.

Headaches are generally related to a persistant physical issue, as you obviously never had them before, theres a good chance something physically has changed recently.

One of the most common causes of persistant headaches is your eye sight, again it could be as simple as a new pair of sunglasses or perhaps you need minor prescription lenses.

It would be a good starting point to test your eyes.

I dont think someone as young and as active as yourself would have a high BP or arterial blockage issues, but it is fairly common for woman to have Low Blood Pressure, however, headaches are not a common symptom from this condition - however, again, it can do no harm to visit your GP and ask him to check.

What causes high blood pressure?

In general, high BP is caused by either a narrowing of the arteries due to a cholesterol (plaque) build up on the artery walls or a hardening of the artery walls which limits their dilation - (ie) the arteries become less flexable.

As I said, its very, very unlikely in someone as young and as active as yourself.

If you are concerned have it checked, but young woman generally have high levels of good cholesterol, which actually cleans the artery walls (unlike men) - I dont think you need worry about it.

The condition can be genetic or caused by excessive weight (obesity) poor diet (a diet rich in saturated fats), lack of excercise etc - (certainly I think this is highly unlikely in your case).

Amoryn ...I have a similar problem but only after high intensity and workouts longer than 2 hours

Not had one for a while then Del?

I was thinking about this thread this morning as I had a headache before a high intensity workout of more than 2hrs.

No not that, it was the start of the Fast One and I worked out it was because I was just plain tired from lack of sleep.

I used to suffer from this, mainly from heat exhaustion.

Indoors, use a fan.  On full blast.  Even when it's cold.  Otherwise I suffer for the next 24 to 48 hours.

On the road, drink water -- and make sure to get at least some electrolites so you absorb the water (add sugar, salt or an energy drink)  I'm guessing you already do this.

When it's outside, and it's hot, pour water over your head.  This helps a lot.

Unzip that jersey -- let some cool air in.

Stop drinking coffee: it dehydrates and makes the problem worse, although it usually helps in the short term.
