I want to but not sure if I’ll be able to get a social team going and solo sounds a bit rof.

Biggest obstacle currently is the lack of "seconding team" (wife), especially if I am going to do the solo.

@ The Smoof .... A second is great, but not critical, did it this year without my official second (Wife) and will be doing so again this coming year.

Pre-pack all your food and keep this in a decent cooler box.

Thanks Hairy. That may be the best advice yet.

What do you do about the powernaps that you take? Do you take a tent with? Want to find out as much as possible about the logistics involved as I have already not entered Attakwas because of this race/event.

I take it you will be there again to give the youngsters a run for their moneyclap.gif clap.gif

Still trying to get my head into the right place - I've had a month filled with pain and suffering.

And are you calling me old? ;)

Don't listen to Velouria unless you are contending for the win ...........

  • Pack a tent and sleeping bag
  • Bring spare cycling kit and socks
  • usual shower goodies
  • sunblock ... it get hot and then hotter
  • make sure you pack food you know you can eat after a hard ride
  • sunnies are a must
  • bring a box with spare goodies you have lying around at home. I have loaned out spare saddles and tyres before, so just pack it in the car and leave it there.
  • chain lube .... do not forget this one
  • your night lights and a light to navigate the site at night
  • if you are not racing a few cold beers go a long way
  • cash as they sell food and drinks on site
  • bring along a good sense of humour

Now every year, other than last year, I end up in the tent at 5 to 6pm on the first day with a mother of a headache and nausea ... turns out riding with a buff under my helmet that hangs over my neck and sunglasses the last 24hr solves that problem as it was a painless ride for me.

More info will follow as I think of it.

I know this maybe a silly question, but what is the vibe like?

I dont want to rock up there and feel like the new kid at school?

The vibe I have always found to be very good ..... it is also what you make of it.

Talk to riders around you and just open yourself up to the event.

In previous years I have found myself sitting at fire of people I just met drinking their coffee at some rediculous hour of the morning or riding through the ST at night have fat conversations with riders I have also just met or seen a few times through the day.

Last year started badly for me as "nobody" greeted me at the campsite with a cold beer ..... it was the start of a bad trend for the weekend!

For once I will skip it. I'm getting married that day. Fiancee must have known something that I didn't.

Ito vibe, don't worry, you get everything from guys on Single speeds, people like Velouria who just never stop's riding, to the kids with a porta-pool and then also the party crowd. Oh and there will be at least three teams who take themselcves super seriously and race for the grand price of four bottles of lube and clean socks. What they forget every year is that the prizes for winning is negligible compared to the lucky draw prizes.

Pack lots of sunscreen. Put on clean shorts as often as possible (keep the gooch and surrounding area clean) and remember to have fun.
