Best wheel builder in Cape Town i hear you ask? yellow saddle in Jhb or johanbornman on here. Seriously you'll get bored from waiting for your wheel to buckle, loose spokes, loss of tension, etc, etc.

Hendrik at SAWheelworks is great. Maybe the only wheelbuilder with an actual spoke tension guage! Drove out to him just to get my wheels laced.

Sounds like the man I am looking for.

I am sure all the mentioned guys are amazing wheel builders.

I am about to spend plenty on hubs, rims and spokes.

When I get home I am going to put the wheel on a truing stand and check if the wheel is vertically and laterally true. I will also

check spoke tension (Yes I own a one). The tools are for maintenance but I did replace a rim before and it took me ages to get perfect.

That is why I need a perfectionist wheel builder.

Only works if the actual rim is totally true.

Everything is brand new.

I dont expect the tensions to be exactly the same for all the spokes. It can be off here and there but not by much.

I suppose drive side and none drive side will differ in tension.

I no expert, that is why I am looking for one.

And a tension tool is just a guide.

Its like my mate.. he buckle his wheel a bit. Sends it to a LBS, they tighten the spokes so tight is sounds like a guitar when he rides.

There is a process one can follow to straighten the wheel a bit instead of just tightening the spokes moer toe.

I take it you had a wheel built by him. He was actually the first guy to pop to mind but just him being in JHB. I guess that shouldn't really be an obstacle.

Um guys.... there is no better wheel builder that Lance Stephenson at Epic Bike shop. End of story.

+ 1 for Lance at Epic Bike Shop - I don't trust anyone else with my hoops.

Hoekom is almal so in BMC se gat opp gekruip?

Was in there once...Ben tell me what moerse expensive brake outer casing he has that is made of kevlar and some space material and that nothing can break that cable dry.png .

Then I get told it take 2 hours to bleed brakes so it will cost R700 to replace and bleed my brake casings.

looked at a helmet and that too is R200 more than at cwc so I went out and never back in again.

Wanted to replace my brakes after a while with the 2012 deore or slx's and then I get told but there are better options out there....

Please laugh.png .

It Sounds like you are mixing up BMC in Salt River and BMT in Stellenbosch

yes I have & I'm from Cape Town too, so posting wasn't an issue for me either, it is worthwhile. Just my wheel was a powertap Road wheel build. Just to give u an idea I bunny hop side walks, Potholes, manhole covers, etc, etc & they are still going strong.

William from Williams Bike Shop in Somerset West ... no doubt!

+1 to that.

William has built two sets for me - heavy Mavic/Hope set for training and long endurance rides, and lighter Velocity/DuraAce set for events and "races" (not that I am really a racer). Both sets have been A1
