MRP vs E Thirteen vs Hope vs CSixx vs??

Since Im running 1x9 on the Mbuzi I want to fit a chainguide down the line.

At the moment on the Fuji I just kept the front derailleur but it isn't ideal and I don't think I have one that fits the frame at the moment.

Any suggestions?

I quite like the CSIXX 110g.

I run the CSIXX 110g on my dh bike. Very nicely made piece of kit. Throw a bit of fluffy velcro in the top guide before you put it on for less clatter.

I have run e*thirteen, MRP, csixx and Blackspire.

Here's my take...

MRP and e*thirteen... in essence they're pretty much the same if you go for the MRP G2 and the E*thirteen LG1+

I prefer this sort of guide (the type that don't use a bash ring but in stead have a taco underneath)

E*thirteen LG1+

MRP G2

You'll also notice that Truvativ/SRAM have X0 guides and whatnot. These are MRP's rebranded and refined.

The other types use a roller(s), guide(s) and a bash ring. Like the Straitline Silent Guide (said to be one of the best chainguides on the market, although not the prettiest)

and the Gamut P30 (what Mr Minn uses)

As for the CSIXX... they are works of art. The only concern I have with the 110g is the lack of a taco. So misjudge the clearance over some rocks ect and your chainring and chain are going to suffer.

CSIXX does have 2 other options that will protect your chainring and chain. The 150g

...and what I run..

the 175g

(look, my Makulu was used for the CSIXX advert biggrin.png )

So yeah... choices choices... but I can vouch for the

  • CSIXX 175g
  • MRP G2
  • e*thirteen LG1+
  • e*thirteen MTX

As far as what to avoid. Race Face (forgot the model) and Truvativ Box Guide.

Thank you kind sir.

The 175G will be overkill for AM applications I think.

That MRP sure looks nice.

Was also looking at the E Thirteen SRS+

Eish, that SRS is quite pricey. I'd rather get an LG1+ (a little cheaper, and way more popular).

then throw on a G-ring in green

Steve Peat uses the LG1+. In fact there's a signature model, but only 350 were made

The Funn guide is a good budget option...

I have no idea how they perform though.
