if your pads are still rubbing and making a noise, try spraying the rotors with some Pledge or Mr. Min. That should get rid of the squeel

yup i got a bottle of disc brake cleaner for cars, worked like a charm when i use to run avids, just a drop of two on the rotors only, go stop a couple of times and bobs your aunty all sorted. No more turkey wobble.

if you tried all these tips and thebrakes still rub , just do yourself a favour and get shimano brakes. Even shimano SLX would be better. i changed to slx on my prev and was very happy with them. have xt now on my new bike and it feels the same as the slx. both better than avid 5's

And effectiveness of brakes afterwards? Brake pads are not one of the items that are polished during a car/bike wash.

and why not? I hate it when my brake pads are looking all dull and dirty. Shine those puppies up! Rotors too! If you're willing to put in some elbow grease then Cobra floor wax leaves the best shine!
