Open water swims in Joburg...

Yip, looks like R120 no matter which race or how many races you do. I'm then going to look at the 1500m as a time trial for 5150 the weekend after.. just need some wetsuit compatriots to kick (me) in the face

Has anyone done this swim before?

Whats the water temperature likely to be? Ifs its around 25 or so a wetsuit will get pretty warm after a while.

I've done it a few times. Around this time of year, I would expect around 18-19 deg. There haven't been big rains + floods, so visibility will be good. Since when does the temperature matter... wetsuit is wetsuit :-) It's not like it stops helping you if the temperature is higher

haha. No it was more that if the water was warm a wetsuit would get uncomfortable. below 20 is perfect for a wetsuit

Received this reply RE: Time Freight Heia Safari 1000 - Series 1

Hi Dave

Sorry I have taken so long to get back to you, you can swim with a wetsuit.

Kate

Dave this morning I received a reply to my query from Glynis as follows:

Hi there,

Sorry that is one of the rules. No wetsuits.

Regards

Glynis

Glynis was on the email address info@midmarmile.co.za - where is Kate?

OK, so the final word after Glynis and Kate had a chat... :)

Apparently for this Heia Safari 26th and 27th October is not being used as a seeding event for Midmar Mile.

So you may swim in wetsuits for this one only. All the rest are seeding events. Sorry about that, lack of

Communication.

Regards

Glynis

Nice, think I'm going to enter this too.

Gonna get a wetsuit this weekend and will try it out there.

Good luck guys! Sounds like a good event, a little bummed I can't be there.

Remember to lube that neck or use some tape between your neck and the top of your new wetsuit as it tends to chafe there.

Cool, I've got some Bodyglide but haven't heard of the tape idea.

What tape do you use and where do you put it? On the back of your neck?
