Are there any hubbers that ride with the Velo Club in PTA East?

I usually joined the ROAG online club, but seeing that it is now renewing time again for CSA, I am looking at a club to join for “Safety in numbers” on the road. I see that they have a 28km/h and a 33km/h group, but I am would just like to know what distances to they do?

Thanks

I haven't done their road rides in some time since I've moved over to mtb, but Saturdays are usually 80-150km in distance (the website will usually specify the route they'll do). Most often, out east towards Bronkies/Cullinan and sometimes out towards Harties.

The "A group" i.e. 33km/h is pretty much balls to the wall on Tuesdays. The "B Group" much easier.

Thursdays are way more relaxed.

Both rides around 70km.

I usually turn around early to get about 50km in before work.

Normally no Sunday organised rides.

Saturday will be 80-120km rides. Mainly East side of Pretoria roads, Cullinan, Boshkop, Babsfontein, etc.

Every now and again head out to Harties.

Thank you gents. This is what I was hoping for. How big are their groups. Are they massive or manageable?

Groups come and go. Normally about 20-50 riders depending on weather and if there is a race on.

This Saturday had about 20 A groupers and 30 B riders

Normally not bigger. It will grow towards the Argus time and from there around 20-40 about per ride

Do you need a club for CSA membership? Heard it changed

I think you are right jcza. It seems like you only need to belong to a club if you want a racing license

I got this from the website now:

Cycling SA Membership:

  • Membership will be available through the CYCLINGSA member management website (/).
  • It is not necessary for CSA Members to belong to a club, but members which apply/upgrade their CSA Memberships to Domestic Racing Licenses need to belong to a registered cycling club.
  • These options are all available on the CYCLINGSA member management website. The system opens on 1st September 2012.
  • If New Applicants or Members which haven't purchased 2012 CSA Membership; they can now purchase their 2013 CSA Membership and their membership will be valid from the date of issue until 31st December 2013. (Membership can be used for the remainder of 2012 and for 2013)
  • Membership will entitle riders to race, be seeded and participate in CYCLINGSA sanctioned events. Exceptions are detailed under Racing License Section.

Yes, @ Grondpad, only for a full license do you need to belong to a club...

But by riding with a club, you are reaping benefits that come with being with the club, and then it's only fair that you join the club as a member?

I agree 100%. That is why I am currently scouting for a nice club to ride with before I join one. I have joined another club for a ride or two late last year but they do not cover many km's. I think Velo will be much beter.
