....I dont understand.

Why are you concerned about them? Surely its about you doing the right thing first.?

Its easy to point at others and say "what about them" but they are not your concern, thats up to the authorities to enforce, its a defeatist attitude to say "well they dont do it so why should I" we will never get anywhere like that. Its been said a million times, Change begins with you.

That's a flawed premise. If every single cyclist behaved perfectly it would make an incredibly small difference.

One recent death was due to alcohol and one due to a taxi failing to see the bike.

Neither were caused by frustrated, entitled, white motorists' anger at cyclists skipping lights.

More red tape, more costs, more corruption with no real effect. Worst idea in the history of ideas.

Whats a flawed premise.?

I read my post 20 times, and for the life of me I see no reference to white motorists, frustrated entitled or otherwise, corruption, costs, or red tape, all I saw was an opinion that it serves no purpose "to point fingers" at some one else.!

Maybe I am missing something.?

The premise that change starts with you. TNT1 has been obeying the law to the letter and it hasn't made a Eiffel of difference.

Read the threads, it is white cradle motorists and Cape Townians who are the most indignant about riding abreast or robot jumping.

I live in Limpopo which is two percent white and motorists here are much more accepting of cyclists yet the danger from unaware taxis/trucks and drunk drivers remains.

These are the biggest killers. Having number plates on my bike will not prevent or even reduce theft and the cyclists riding against traffics, mainly MTB riders, will not put plates on. If they manage to implement an idea like this it will only be an irritant.

Laws against drunk drivers have not managed to stop them, a bit of extra plastic on my bike won't either. It won't even make me more visible which would be a far more practical law - high viz colours on the road.

All you who say its a lawless country and it will never work... You seem to be the same people complaining about how bad sa is ..

SA rocks! We have a awesome beautifull country. Yes as is anywhere else we have problems. But we can fix em one thing at a time. And yes, this is one of those things that with a little try we can fix.

I love SA that's why I live here. Only thing that upsets me is pointless government beaurocracy that would force me to queue up for a bit of plastic for my bike.

Aah, okay, fair enough,........ thats your take on though, my mileage differs.

Just a comment for those that are saying only certain guys need to be licensed because they are the ones breaking the law and the majority of commuters dont need to be licensed. If its not law for everyone then it becomes optional. So the law abiding guys go and do it and the guys who habitually break the law will decide not to - for obvious reasons. Cant really see that working iether.
