For the experienced guys - what is a good calculation of finishing time from half to full (provided weather conditions are similar)

I'm no expert but I would say double it + 1hr

Agreed, but there are a whole lot of other factors that come into it. But general rule of thumb is double + 1 for fatigue.

Thanks, that is great.

Can you comment on how the Gu Bru is mixed. I have heard from a few people it is quite diluted - is this accurate? How many KJ can we expect to get in the bottles mixed for the bike, and cups on the run?

tks

Hi Dracs

That's quite a common misconception, as our drinks (Brew, Roctane and Tabs) are all very lightly flavoured where the majority of others are quite sweet. So no, that's how they are intended to taste. We don't dilute them or anything like that. In fact we mix all the product for races where we provide the nutrition ourselves to ensure consistency across aid stations and races, as well as the correct powder to water ratios.

The beauty of our drinks being mild tasting is that one can keep drinking them during ultra endurance events like IRONMAN where one does tend to get tired of the overly sweet stuff quite quickly. Plus if it's been sitting in your bottles for a while and it's luke warm, being less sweet definitely helps the palatability.

The GU Brew has 26g carbs giving you 100 calories (roughly 420 kilojules) in a 473ml (16oz) serving. On the bike to enable riders to grab the bottles with the Brew in them easily, they are filled around 2/4 to 3/4 full and the poppet opened, so I would guestimate around 50-75 calories (13-19,5g carbs or 210-315 kilojules) or so in a bottle at IRONMAN SA.

Our cups contain 100ml if full, but again to enable runners to grab them on the run one would have 50-75ml in there. This is works out to about 4g carbs, 13 calories and 55 kilojules in a cup then.

Hope that helps!

Ok so the weather looks to be moderate but tough.

14 - 18km/h Easterly with gusts of up to 31km per hour....... maximum temp is 22 which is good so it wont be brutally hot.

Monday looks worse but Saturday looks better. Lets hope the weather slows down!!!

I am getting really nervous now.

Same here. For me its the unknown. I have done three 70.3's and there I know what to expect from my body and the course, but with the full its different, as it will be my first. That is why I have decided not to worry about my time and that has helped to take some pressure off. My strategy is to race as I have trained and that has mostly been based on my heart rate. Now my nr 1 priority to stay healthy until race day.

This will be my 3rd IMSA. I am however more worried than I was for the first 2. Foot injury and a bad last 14 days in terms of training. At least I wont get sick as I have just recovered.

The whole 10 year reunion will also add to the hype. Cant wait to get to PE on Thursday.

Weather is changing every day... we will only know on the morning of the race.

The ocean however is going to have some solid swell around...

Does the wind really change that much? So are you saying we cannot even take Saturdays report serious?
