My friend is coming up with his kids and wants a place he can camp or hire a hut or rondavel. He wants to bring his kids with MTB for short plus minus 8 or so km trail.

Any recommendations would be welcome.

Must be safe.

Groenkloof (tel. 012 440 8316 or website: www.tshwane.gov.za/groenkloofnaturereserve) is perfect as camping facilities (run by City of Tshwane) are basic yet decent, affordable, right in Pretoria city centre (Fountains) close to all amenities yet feels like the trails are out in the sticks, safe, accessible. Great access to range of wildlife ( buck, zebra, giraffe, wildbeest, etc.) on bikes / horses / hiking / 4x4 / even sedans access most parts.

Can vary trail lengths and difficulty according to own desire, age of kids, fitness, etc. We have taken kids between ages of 8 and 16 all around the reserve on MTB and they enjoyed every experience.

Can't go wrong with kids here as far as I am concerned.

Mountain sanctuary on the other side of Breedts might be worth a look...

They are quite pedantic about their no noise after a certain time though, so depending on how raucous you friend & his kids are...

Mountain sancturay is lovely for camping, hikes, swim, kloofing. The mountainbike trails inside are a bit technical - big loos rocks technical. could possibly cycle from the campsite towards breeds or the hotel on dirt roads.

For a good MTB weekend. The Mountain Sanctury Park in the Buffelspoort valley is a great place for camping ,Log cabins etc.Lot of MTB Routes to keep you busy for hours. Some good hiking trails aswell.
