Unless you know some farmers and such you're pretty much stuck with the district roads... the good stuff comes out the play at crater cruize and dirt max...

You can try Deelfontein ( www.deelfontein.co.za )that's in the Koepel . Nice single track and there is a koppie that's got quite a technical climb and descent . Also closer to Potch on the Parys road there is a 22 km track called Tarentaal that is very nice for technical single track training .

Oh, forgot, there are some trails around the air field just outside Parys, but its all pretty fast and rolling. I didn't know that you could ride deelfontein at any time.

@Milkman- where exactly is Tarentaal? Is it public access? I didn't know that you could ride deelfontein at any time- do you have to pay?

There is an 80 and 60km loop starting in Parys that is on strava that is all on district roads.

Tarentaal is about 14 km outside Potch on the Parys road on the left side of the road if you drive towards Parys . When you turn of the tar road at the Tarentaal mtb sign , there are 3 gravel farm roads - take the middle one . The farm is 4 km further on . Public access , you pay R30 per person at the farm house . It's close to my farm , so we ride there often . Unfortunately in winter the trail has got some loose sand , so can be a bit hard on the legs , but that is only about 4 kays of the trail .Also , there are some gates you have to open and close , because of the cattle .

Deelfontein is also open to public - R60 for a day pass . I've ridden there quite a few times .If you want to make sure about access you can phone the farmer - Gerhard 0832809784 before the time and just confirm whether he will be on the farm or not .

I also have a short 5 kay xco track on my farm were some of the locals come to train . I don't ask anything , and you don't need permission to enter . Pm me if you want directions .

Hi this is Tarentaal himself ! Thanx Milkman for the info you gave about tarentaal. The track is now 22 km and stil working on a new section. There are some very technical sections that you can choose that loop's out of the main route. The scenery is great if you have time to look around! The gate problem is being sorted out to make riding more enjoyable. A chalet braai facilities ablution etc. is also available for day visitors. You can ride braai and ride again. You pay at the farm, R30.You can call 084 500 4221. We will shortly post our Date for the next event. Hope to see you soon.

Here is the strava link for the 60km one. I would suggest going on on grens street instead of through the industrial area. Very flat and fast if there is no wind, unlike the day I recorded it. About 90% dirt road:

This one is a 90km odd loop which is similar to the long crater cruize loop without all the single track. Also about 90% dirt road. You can shorten it by going straight at the 2nd T-junction after crossing the river.

Hi All

i am going to Parys this weekend and would like to do some riding. Apart from RexFuzzle 90km loop. Is the tracks at Tarentaal still open for riding?

Thanks

Rex. I am looking to do the 90km loop end of June. Is it possible to do the crater loop without permission etc.
