Dropped by MTB off there yesterday for full service and basic checkup.

Also had one rear spoke slightly bent so requested they take a look at that and check wheel is true.

I didnt ask for a quote on the service, but was promised a call if anything major came up.

Felt pretty good, guy who helped me was friendly and helpful.

Then.....friend of mine tells me I made a mistake and shouldnt have taken it there.

Whats your opinion?

(really looking for people who have or continue to use them)

have been there a few times and never been disappointed. Great service, kept me in the loop with what was happening and delivered as per the time they said they would. I usually deal with Colin or Jared. From service to Rockshox fork installation + tuning and tubeless setups.

Maybe your mate had a bad experience there, it's all relative, but I'm happy there.

I have been using them for the past 10 years at least (I think could be more, they used to be in a little shop where Morningside shopping centre is now) and I don't think you have anything in particular to worry about. The owners are honest guys, if you are worried give them a call and get a quote. Obviously they are not perfect like any business, but I would trust them. Their only fault is they can be a bit disorganised at times, but I have always got what I wanted from them ultimately.

Great thanks. Put my mind at ease a little there.

Just nervous after another LBS charged me R500 for replacing a spoke (my mistake for not getting a quote when dropping it off)

I support Morningside Cycles now the last couple of years and Collin and his team always went and still go out of their way to help, advise and give an excellent service

If you are penny wise I am sure you will get a cheaper place,… penny wise pound foolish..

Every store have their ups and downs and I am sure that there will be some criticism, nothing the team I am sure they will react positively on the criticism to even better the service.

Did your friend give you valid reasons?

Ps, this is the only shop my wife feels comfortable to use, they do not make her feel like an incompetent fool like others do

Cheers

There is your problem...window through which disappointing can creep in

Only reason given was that they were expensive. Anecdotal evidence from 1 person hence my post on here to check what the general public's opinion was.

Like I said, I was very happy on the initial interaction - will wait for Saturday (when I pick bike up) and reserve my judgement until then

Yes I probably should have been specific but I was in a rush to get back to work. Foolish me, but hopefully this will end up being a rave not a rant

Yea a good shop will phone you and tell you what needs to be replaced and also tell you what you are in for money wise. Maybe to make sure, communicate this with them....they must tell you precisely what needs to be done and how much it will cost you before doing it.
