Why is the Shimano cleat further back than other other pedals using the same SPD cleat?

Example, Ritchey pedals.

Do one leave the cleat in the same position so by using the Shimano pedal the foot would be further back?

It's not the fit that bothers me.

It's why Shimano moved the cleat backwards on the pedal.

No one else does it this way.

When you say more back are you referring to the cleat (pressure point) now being more rearwards i.e. more behind the pedal axle?

Google mid foot cleat position

Maybe the slant eyes are onto something....as there are very very few cycling shoe manufacturers that allow for a "more rearward" cleat position.

Might be barking up the wrong tree, apologies if I am..

I modify all my cycling shoes so that the cleat can be moved further back than what is normal and wish I could find a shoe that accommodates this without having to elongate the cleat attachment holes / slots

Did not notice that you barked.

I still have the Exustar MTB shoes and they took the new position with no problems.

My main concern is that one is now stuck using Shimano pedals.

I want to get some Ritchey WCS pedals for my SS.

Maybe I should flog the XT pedals and get two Ritchey's then.

LOL sometimes I howl....

Ok think I misunderstood your question

I never used spd cleats so cannot comment on the differences when used with 2 different pedal systems (XT and Ritchey)
