TSA Temporary Licence Fees - Incorrect Race Organiser Practice

When I did the Momentum Duathlon a few weeks ago, I discovered afterwards that the online price paid includes a R30 TSA day licence fee. As a TSA member, I should not be required to pay this.

There was apparently an additional queue at registration where TSA members are meant to collect their refund of the said R30. Instruction of this is included in the small print on the race website.

After three emails, the organisers have agreed to pay the refund into my account on principle.

The race organisers have the ability to spend some time checking all the entries against the TSA website (really easy) and then pocket those unclaimed temporary licence fee refunds for themselves. Certainly a nice little pile of money for the little effort.

I have raised the issue with TSA who have been speedy and emphatic in their response:

It is not permitted by race organisers to charge a temporary licence fee to a TSA member and put the onus on the member to seek a refund.

They are in the process of sorting this out with the Momentum Duathlon and other race organisers.

If you are due a refund from races in the series, I recommend you email Charne Bosman <charne75@gmail.com> from the race office and request it.

This is not the first time this happened. I've seen this happen in a few races over the last few years.

BSG did it last year too. They at least had the TSA numbers and looked it up. Momentum Duathlon require you to prove that you are a member by presenting your membership card. (per their website). TSA to my knowledge do not issue a membership card. I certainly have never received one.

But it is wrong and TSA are now taking a stand on it.

I definitely never received a TSA card.

I emailed Charne after seeing your post and she says they will refund me (hasnt come through yet) - but its the athletes responsibility and next time I wont be so lucky.

I got the same reply, They did pay me. I am waiting for them to demand a TSA card at the next event.

TSA, CSA, ASA. Same shyte different spelling

Actually Marc, TSA's response has been clear and supportive on this. The fault is the race organiser.
