interesting debate. any opinions?

It is not inner space, nor is it outer space. It is that space where nerds used to play. The rest of the world realised that nerds are not that bad, and started muscling in on their territory, so now it is not a real space where real nerds play any more. Hence cyberspace.

the squatters in the nerd space, after muscling in on the nerds' space, labelled the true owners (nerds) of this space hackers and subsequently when that became too cool - cyber terrorists, and have forever been busy trying to banish the nerds from their own space.

So, if this is not a real space any more, how can cyber terrorists be real terrorists?

Cyber- is a prefix derived from "cybernetic," which comes from the Greek adjective κυbερνητικός meaning skilled in steering or governing (Liddell and Scott, Greek-English Lexicon)

It's somewhat ironic then that cyberspace has come to infer something of a digital wildwest.
