Shortening handle bars

What is the pro's and con's of shortening my 29er's handle bars? And if i do how much?

Struggling to get use to them..

Why do you want to shorten them... the wide bars should give you more controll...

Ps, i knocked a mirror commuting back from work the other day... Hence my fear

Thats quite wide.

Give it a bit more time to get used to. The extra 30mm each side isn't why you clipped the mirror. It was an accident.

I wouldn't shorten them, had the same problem when I bought my 29er takes getting used to but you have better control. Rather get some shorter bars and try it out first, at least if you don't like it then you can go back to the longer bars

Commuting wide bars are a liability, but off-road you do get used to them and there are more +'s than -'s

Paddy shortened his drop handles after he knocked a mirror. The bike looks very funny now with the STi's mounted

I also had the same problem. 640 on 26er went onto 700 on 29er. Took 20mm of each side. Problem solved. All in the mind I wouldnt know.
