I have been running 1x9 and 1x10 successfully since 2010 with MRP and E13 XC guides on normal triple type cranks and a SS ring in the 'middle' position.

 

I now have fitted a 1x10 setup on a 2 ring crank,but as my ring is in what would be the outer ring in a 2 ring set up its probably a fraction further out than what it would have been in the middle slot on a tripple ring, to me it juts feels a little too far when in the lowest gear at the back (36t)

 

Anyone spaced there single ring in a little with washers/spacers?

 

this pic give an idea of my thinking, unless someone can confirm the chainline of a shimano 2x10 crank?

ok so shimano says the chain line for a double is 48.8 and for the triple 50mm

 

so does that mean that the outer on the double is on the same place as the middle on the triple?

If you look at your pic, you can see that the small ring on the triple crank, you can hardly see the bb, , however it is more visible on the 2x10, so i would assume that the outer and inner of the 2x10 are in the middle of the blades, ie on triple small chainring is closer to frame than on double, and outer (44T) is further from the frame than the double.

 

well this is just an assumption from the pic above.

Hmmm. I have also gone to 1x10 on a double XT crank, and was wondering the same thing. Hopefully some technical buffs can answer this question.

so if the chain line is measured to the middle ring on a triple crank and S says its 50mm then to emulate this on a double crank where the chainline is measured to a point in between the inner and outer rings and S says this is 48.8mm then one could assume that the distance from the centre of the frame to the outer blade is 50mm? But I have a feeling its a little further out than 50mm........but still a little closer to the frame than the outer on a triple?

 

so whats the gap between 2 chainrings on a double crank?
