why only on DSTV

Not sure how many of the hubbers feel the same way, but, I feel that cycling should be shown more on our normal TV channels.....1,2,3 and ETV.

Currently if you don't pay R400 a month for DSTV you don't get to watch any cycling.  You only get to read about the big races and so on a month down the line in the Ride or Bicycling.  Surely cycling is more popular than 5 years or so ago.  I don't have R400 a month to spend on DSTV with 200 channels.  If they had the option of only buying the sport and doccie channels every month I would sign up.  Surely there are many other peoples who would also only buy those channels.  I am not interested in all the bumping and grinding going on on half of the channels.Confused

DStv Compact, a recent addition to the South African DStv satellite television offering, brings the thrill of 23 channels + four (4) South African free-to-air channels carefully chosen channels to a broader subscriber base. This bouquet cuts the normal subscription costs in half, opening up an exciting segment of digital satellite television to a new market. South Africa's favourite news, entertainment, sport and documentary channels are all rolled into one 'must-have' bouquet.

SuperSport 3,SuperSport 4, Hallmark, ActionX, Reality, Channel 0, BBC News, Animal Planet, Cartoon Network, SABC Africa, Rhema, TBN, Series Channel, Game Zones (45)
(The following free-to-air channels will also be available to DStv Compact subscribers:
SABC 1, 2, 3, ETV, and DStv Radio channels).

1. The cost of subscribing to DStv Compact is R249.00 per month, with an access fee of R50 for Dual View subscribers [administrative fee - see Dual View Access Charge specific core messages below].

2. DStv Compact subscribers will be able to make use of the add on bouquet options i.e. DStv Indian or DStv Portuguesa specialist bouquets at standard subscription costs.

3. The channels provided in DStv Compact are not interchangeable [see tiering specific core messages below]. This smaller package of channels - called DStv Compact - is pre-defined and fixed - i.e. subscribers will not be able to select the channels that comprise that package.

4. The channels in the DStv Compact tier were determined by  content and distribution rights and the price agreements that MultiChoice was able to secure with the relevant channel suppliers. Furthermore the channels in DStv Compact were carefully researched to ensure that the key viewing genres are catered for in the overall mix of channels.

5.  Subscribers to DStv Compact will be able to receive the DStv guide and interactive services that are specific to any of the channels included in the tiered bouquet, but will not be able to receive the full suite of interactive services as reflected in DStv Touch. Subscribers to DStv Compact will be enabled for any DALs (BMW, Toyota adds) that may be added to the DStv Premium Bouquet for the same duration that the DAL (BMW, Toyota adds) is available in the DStv Premium Bouquet .

6. DStv Compact will be available to subscribers with a Dual View decoder

Didn't Vodacom offer a package for R100 or something like that?

I don't like the idea of paying R250 for less channels, and then not getting to choose what I get. Also - don't they show the cycling programs on SS2?

I think you're right. There's no cycling on SS3 or SS4.

There's a cycling show called Pedal Talk on SABC 2 on Saturdays. Might be fortnightly. It's usually on just before the day's big soccer match. Johnny Koen is the host and it covers most major events in the country.

The is a great magazine program on SABC 2 or 3 on a Saturday afternoon. It's called Pedal Talk and is hosted by Johnny Koen. It is a truly pro setup!! Trust me I don't have many nice things to say about the ruling party broadcaster but this program kicks Supercycling into touch by a long shot. The big bonus is that it is devoid of childish and banal Geerdterisms!!

[i really dont beleive that anyone can say SABC is worthwile or even watchable it is basically TV fodder fed to alot of people with no other choice. DSTV is good ;but it is way overpriced --once again it is a S.A. monopoly and there is no competition;the other compact option is not really worth it ,as the best channels are taken out BBC prime;History Channel ;Discovery Channel;and other sports channels. If you take out a 12 month contract they will only charge for 11 months.Dont waste time on the compact contract you will regret it.DSTV is great for cycling ;most tours are shown.I have had it for 2 months now and have not watched Etv or SABC once since.
