It would be interesting to see the research from the conflicting ones and who was funding them... Well all of them really, but a company would be pretty daft to publish something that disproves their product. The same can however be said for researchers- the more controversial the more publicity.

Just on the snake oil graph just above your post, I know the informationisbeautiful website and they get all of their information from the web, data gathering, (But we know you can't believe everything on the internet), but for each of their graphs they have a doc that shows all the source links of the information, So in this case AFAIK, they are interdependent from any product, Some of there other graphs are very interesting as well.
