So I bought a new Scott last week and rode it in the burger this weekend. I think I rode it a bit too hard and have subsequently SLIGHTLY bent my rim.

My question is that apparently you can get the rim forged back into perfect condition, in my mind I'm thinking the rim is already weak from the bend now its going to be made even weaker from the forge? Is it worth the time and money

Just to reiterate this is a very slight bend, I just know it was perfect and now that its not I'd like sort it out before it gets worse

Thanks

Nick - nothing needs to be "forged" - just a couple of tweaks to the spokes should get it straight as an arrow. Any bike shop should be able to do that....

You dont forge the rim

If its too far gone and not able to be trued by tightening spokes, it may be best to build a decent wheel.

How much do you weigh and how bad is the bend / buckle?

Really, ok that's good news:) I'm guessing the 29inch rims have something to do with this too

Thanks

Nah - a *** rim is a *** rim - size doesn't matter (in most things apparently).

The only rim that I would really stay away from are Alex. They really aren't designed for anything more than riding to the shops once/week - by your grandmother - who is really thing - who isn't a strong cyclist - and walks most of the way - and carries her groceries in case she overloads the Alex rims.

It's the standard syncros XR 2.0 that come with the scotts

Amen to that, brother Eldron!

Alex rims are shite.

Alex rims seem to work for me. And I was at one stage around 107kg!

About 1800km on my Ghost dualie

About 3000km on the new set on my GT (cheap disc brake/rim brake set from Solomons at under R1000 for the set!)

Have replaced a couple of spokes and thats it.

A bit like the Avid brakes debate...!

(Apologies here, I see the original wheelset with my GT were WTB rims and not Alex, however the other 2 sets listed here are running fine)
