I'm sorry i just cant pay the prices the LBS's are trying to rip me off with anymore.

so i was hoping to find out more info from anyone who has used alibaba.com before,

 

1) How was your experience

2) What was the waiting period like

3) what type of import, customs duty fees are charged to bring a complete bike into RSA

4) would you recommend this approach

Try aliexpress.com. Its alibaba's website for small purchases. Bought 3 cycling kits. Quality good but took 5 weeks to arrive. Maybe just the postal system. Bought an item from China off eBay last week. It arrived in sa this week.

so how does the sizing on cycling kit compare with local sizes. If I'm XL would their XL be the same or would I order XXL

I've bought everything from frames, bike parts, clothes, solar battery chargers to cellphones off Alibaba/AliExpress. No problems anytime.

 

No matter how big the parcel, levies have never been over R200, sometimes as low as R18. The Chinese are in the habit of declaring things as being cheaper as what they are - without you asking for it. Levies are less on your side then. Guess that's incentive to buy from them again - from their perspective.

 

Shipping. DHL is the best but is expensive.

 

We always use EMS. But that's a shot in the dark. Once with EMS my carbon frame arrived in a week. Recently my wife got a cellphone over AliExpress. Purchased 18 June. It JUST arrived in town today. Almost two months. Another mate's frame went missing for almost 4 months. Turned up through. So EMS can be fast or slow. Just depends who's working the counter on the day at the airport I guess.

 

Buy from a seller with a good rating and one that's been in business for a while and you can't go wrong.

95% the same. I wear Large anatomic, and Large Monton. Find the Chinese clothes are sliiiiiiiiightly more snug. Not a problem though.
