Shimano M596 vs M615 Brakes?

Hi hi,

I have no cooking clue how Shimano codes work and was wondering who can help me out.

I want to know which of the 2 (M596 or M615) are the better Brakes?

I had a pair of their SLX on my old bike and became a huge fan of their Brakes and want to get a set but have also hear that the Newer versions of the Deore matches up against the SLX & XT versions.

Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.

The M615 is the newer version of the M596. I should know, I just received my 615's in the post today from Easybike :) They have exactly the same functionality, and look almost identical.

Been doing much of the same review / asking the same questions - what I'm offering here is more for discussion, but hopefully it assists in your decision making process...

I looked at these two write-ups:

Looks pretty much like pad type is the difference with some smoother lines on the 615 (must admit I don't really care about weight - so haven't bothered to look)

I have 596's on one of my bikes and, like you, have really enjoyed the performance of this product. On another bike I have a set of Avid Elixer 1's (don't want to make this an Avid vs Shimano conversation), but I've decided to replace them with 596's, because:

  • I know what I'm getting performance-wise and feel-wise (love the shape of the lever - which appears to be consistent between 596 and 615);
  • Prefer mineral oil to dot fluid;
  • Keeps the pads consistent between bikes - doubt I'll ever need Ice-tech;
  • They're cheap at the moment - http://www.chainreac...ke/rp-prod67246

Hope this helps

I put the above mentioned brakes, older ones, on my bike. Got them for 1200 from easy bike. I'm so happy with them, the stopping power is incredible and they look great. The levers are short which suits one finger braking. IMO they are as good as slx and I have used slx.

There's my 2cents! Good luck

615?

Don't really understand your question but those are 615's. Just the black option

For the 615's the no longer have "Deore" written on the lever
