Sandblast Finish or Smooth Finish before painting frame?

Before applying my spray on primer, should I sand the frame smooth or leave the sandblast finish?

I just sprayed the undercoat, sanded slightly with high grade w/paper, 2nd coat primer followed by three colour coats.

 

What happened. Come off again?

Do you think the two coats primer will "fill" the sandblast profile and make it smooth for the top coats?

Yip, and the water paper with final coat (2nd) primer. It worked for me. Also "sanded" down between coats. Also depends on your paint "mix" and any overcoating must be avoided. Just spray one time.

I would not even use a filler primer if the surface has no blemishes you need to fill - just a straight epoxy primer.

 

You can also consider phosphating the frame before painting it - rusist has worked for me before - waterbased - spraying it on gives a better finish than using a paintbrush.
