When I lock my RockShox XC32 I still have a slight bit of bounce if I put downward pressure on the fork. The bike was bought brand new in the shop and the guy said that is normal.

Its just concerning as every other suspension with lockout that i've come across (all were cheapies thought) had absolutely no bounce once locked.

So is this normal?

Not sure with yours but both my Epicon and Reba have some movement but my Fox is pretty solid.

Maybe compare to another new one? Is there no adjustment though?

if you close the floodgate on the reba completely you should be able to get it almost rigid.

It a solo air so no real "adjustment" other than it being pumped up to the correct pressure for my weight.

I'm 80kg's so that was the higher end of the pressure scale.

Should prob go compare it to others in the shop, just know my dads merida when locked out is rock solid

What i'd like to know is, is this a defect or a characteristic of the shock?

The guys in the shop didn't seem to have much knowledge and were more keen on making the sale

It is absolutely normal. If you look at the shape of a Motion Control Damper (google it, I'm too lazy to take a photo now) you'll see that it is zig-zag shaped to flex under pressure. This is to protect you and the internal components. Further, the floodgate lets some oil through so if you keep constant pressure on the fork, it sags with time. However, this is not a standard riding condition, you always bob back to reset the fork. Give is good.

My XC32 seems pretty solid. Maybe a 2mm movement. But I never ever lockout, I don't really see the point.

 

Many guys reckon there's a bounce effect when training on tar and you stand and sprint etc. Doesn't feel like it to me. I just ensure the pressure is fine for my dikgat (80kg's).

 

I'm also scared of locking the fork and hitting potholes or something on the tar and screwing up something like the hub or some bearings.

I understand your fear but at the risk of pedantry, I want to point out that nothing of the sort can happen to your hub or bearings. There is no conceivable impact large enough that can do that. The only components under threat under those conditions are your teeth.
