TT Handlebars - Can sawed of upside down road bars work?

I am building up a TT bike and have everything except the base bar.

 

Now I have a few road bars lying around.

 

Question: Will it work if I use normal Road bars, turn them over and saw them of just at the start of the bend?

We used to turn our road-bike bars around in school to help us wheelie and I still have all my teeth, so I guess you could.

Used to do it years back on tri bikes.

Many of the fixed gear and ss guys still do it.

 

I take it that these are alu bars....right.

Will probably be cheaper if you can find a second hand one somewhere.

They will be a little shorter than the new TT base bars but if you going to be on the aero bars then that's not a problem.
