Right so the frame confusion has been resolved and i know what im getting finally so will be paying for it shortly and it will arrive sparkly and clean as my Xmas present to myself.

BUT now the issue is PARTS!

What to use.

I have the following parts available:

Brand new 2012 Shimano Saint 9spd cranks (with no ring so can easily make them 10spd)

Brand new 2012 Shimano Saint 9spd shifter and derailleur (not the clutch one)

Brand new 2012 Shimano Saint Brakes (the older shape not the new short lever)

Brand new 2014 SRAM X0 DH specific clutch derailleur, shifter, chain and cassette

Then

Used 2011 Truvativ Descendant GXP cranks

Used 2013 Shimano XT brakes (the new shape ones)

So i am now wondering what to put on the new bike

Although the Saints are old I like the cranks - but i need to weigh them compared to the Descendants. But the Descendants have done 3 years of work, so maybe the saints are better even though they are old??

Then the 9spd vs 10spd issue - i would like the clutch and the X0 groupset, but the saint feel amazing even though its not a clutch rear mech.

Then the brakes? I could just use the Saints even though they are the old shape as i know they work really well, But i currently use the new shape XTs and they are awesome.

So either - just use the old shape saints

OR

Sell the saints (already have an interested party) then buy new saints and transfer the XTs onto my Trail bike???

Hmmmmmm

Your guys thoughts???

I am leaning towards

X0 Groupset with Saint Cranks and 10spd ring, with new Saint Brakes (if i can get them without having to put in any extra cash)

That's what I'd do. The SAINT brakes on there are a no brainer. You never know quite when you'll need the extra stopping power of the 4 pot calipers, especially on the burly bike. Plus they're SAINTs. come on... Or - outside bet - Hope M4?

The crank issue - yeah. I'd go that side as well, purely due to the age issue and the having 3 years of proper use in the Descendants.

And the RD / Shifter - I'm a fan of SRAM in the shifting department and the clutch is probably the way to go in the future.

Plus the saint is soooooo, like, nine speed. :nuke:

  • Saint Cranks - They're new. I have Saint on one bike and Descendents on another. If I had choose bewteen the 2, I would choose Saint. Hollowtech BB's are easier to source, and I personally prefer the Hollowtech installation to the GXP one.
  • SRAM X0 shifter, RD and chain. It's 10sp. It ha a clutch.
  • Saint Brakes (new... or Hope M/V4's). Sell the older version Saint, and use the opportunity to upgrade 2 bikes.

The PMB okes don't acknowledge the existence of hope bru. They are Hope-less.

Lucky im not from PMB then! hahahaha

haha. I on the other hand lust after hope. I have Hope-lus.

On a serious note I never thought I'd say this but I really really approve of the saint stuff. The cranks, brakes and shifty stuff I really really really approve of.

As long as he takes it easy down fields hill

He doesn't carry enough weight to do any real damage...

HAHA!!! Dude. Going to Pinetown Boys gets you a free pass for life! Especially if you took Geography and ha to sit in with the pet rocks...

Sheet! Forgot about that. Guess that is Honorary Paaaahntinian for life then.

Getting back to the parts. If I was in the terrible situation that Nige finds himself in..... My choice would be the X0 stuff with the Saint cranks. (The carbon on the X0 cranks would scare me a bit...) Those 2012 Saints look OK to me and they work. Pass the XT's onto the trail bike.

Take all the leftovers and sell them and buy something nice for your wife. What you can't sell, I will reluctantly take off your hands to keep that garage of your nice and clutter free
