I know it costs them for the recording but add into the extra payment fee if they want to. As I said before there are many non=PPA riders and therefore the results are not an accurate reflection of a riders performance.

I'm a PPA member and I agree, let the non-PPA members pay more or give the PPA members more discount, but time everybody with a chip, seeing only a portion of the riders on the results is useless to everybody.

Just in general, I think the PPA seeding & timing system seems to works ok for road races, where you have to be part of the whole program to properly participate. But seems to fall flat for mtb races where a lot of people just don't care about PPA.

Also if PPA involved one expects certain standards of accurate length of ride and good safe clear signage.

You would think so but in practice it often isn't, seems PPA is not very hands-on with the organising, their only contribution seems to be the cumbersome seeding & timing systems

That is not the point.

I am already paying extra so why not record the time, I know it costs them for the recording but add into the extra payment fee if they want to. As I said before there are many non=PPA riders and therefore the results are not an accurate reflection of a riders performance.

Yet you dont see the point in becoming a member. I dont quite understand. The people I ride with and compete against all get timed, we compare ourselves to each other. Ultimately its your choice, and yours only. I have a PPA seeding, by the time you start your race at the back, I have allready done half the race. thats enough reason for me.

Maybe you dont quite understand, as you did not highlight/read the whole sentence?

As you say you compare yourself with the people you ride with and not the whole group of people riding the "race".

My choice, at this point in time, to not be a PPA member, Yes. But it is not PPA who does the timeing mats, not my choice that the times of all riders is not being recorded, but things could change if there was enough incentive to do so.

Even if they did record all the times, it would still not be an accurate reflection of your "RACE PACE" lets call it that vs my race pace. I will start much much earlier than you, in cooler conditions, with less chance of wind, PPA members start in small groups, not big bunches. So I will cycle with stronger guys, seeded in my group, with all of us of mostly equal skill and fitness. You will start with people who will get in your way, keep you up and refuse to keep left. It will compromise your race and time. Like you said, its your choice not to be a member at this stage. PPA have some issues and are not perfect, but the seeding system works and I like the perks of being a member. Discounts etc etc. Hope you enjoy the next race more. I fully agree with your previous statement of making the races cheaper and getting more entrants and people into these towns. That is a brilliant idea. Edited by schalk1982
