I've been looking into a lot of these devices and despite advances in tech there is very little out there that has been adapt for the needs of a bike. In SA you need a device that can be remotely initiated, isn't able to be ripped off or in a std location (eg seat post or stem) as as soon as that is known it becomes redundant.

What you need is a tiny GPS version of an RFID tag that can be located inside a seat tube, up a BB, in a handle bar etc where the element of random has an advantage.

now instead of writing petitions ( thats means nothing) this on the other hand is how clever people outwit stupid criminals

this is the only way we will be able to find stolen bikes , by being clever and show the criminals that they have not yet won and find these stolne bikes

I can see this be a solution in the future

There are plenty of ideas under development and even some units already available: SpikeBike, SpyBike, SpyLamp...the best appears to be a combo of GPS and 3G (with monthly subscription to hook up the signal to a tracking site)...issues are battery life and and GPS signal inside metal tubing.
