Get the fitment people to set the seatpost at the height the new seatpost would give. This wont be for a prolonged period so wont cause any issues with the frame, but you will definitely be able to tell if the height is sufficient.

Either way the Tompson Elite seatposts are awesome, I would get the 410mm regardless if you need a longer post, not really any other option anyway, you need a longer post.

The setback is only needed if the frame is quite long enough.

Are you saying one should use an offset post to increase reach ?

I used one on my original 26, as just found the cockpit too cramped. Certainly worked well for me. Isn't that what they are designed for?

No, saddle position and the knee in relation to where you push down your power is crucial, if you need cockpit length get a longer stem or a bigger bike.

Agreed with the Sheriff... Saddle heigh and position (fore/aft) is to sort you in relation to your BB (and pedals). It sorts out you knee angles throughout your pedal stroke.

Your reach is determined by effective top tube length and stem. You don't screw around with your saddle to adjust your reach. Once you're sorted with your legs and knees, you leave it (your saddle) alone.
