I am looking for some rubber sleaves that can go over my cables to protect the frame. if you look at the i link (i think) cables, they come with these orange soft sleeves.

Does anyone know where you can buy them on their own???

Get the BBB ones. I've got them on all my cables. Just make sure you get the right ones. 4mm for gear sleeves and 5mm for brakes. They are axpensive at about R60 for two.

Pickled, it is a plastic sheath that the electronic people uses to put over wire after it has been soldered. This is then heated with a heat gun to shrink and fit snugly around the wire. For cycling cables you will be able to get a small tube to fit over the cable without using heat to atleast protect the paint....

Neither heatshrink tubing or any other fancy rubber product that fits around the cable will protect your frame. The problem comes from fretting between the cable and paintwork. Whatever you cover the cable with, still vibrates against the frame and frets the paint away.

The only solution is something on the paintwork itself that cannot move against the paint, such as a clear sticker or if you are that way inclined, faux carbon fibre stickers.

BS. I've used those rubber tubes on my bike for two years now, and there is no mark beneath. In other areas where I've used stickers the cable went straight trough and damaged the paint.

Tenure carries no weight in cycling. No use telling us you've had it for two years and it is still perfect. My Aunt Edna's bicycle is still perfect after 40 years, with original chain and all. Problem is she doesn't ride much these days, she's been pushing daisies for 35 years.

If there is fretting and dust, the paint will get damaged. The softer rubber may delay the damage, but under the right conditions with some dirty in there you'll have scratched paint. There is no magic formula that can avoid the physics of sandpaper.

Thanks. My point exactly. Thats what they are made for. Oh and after 2 years of daily usage there is still no visible damage to my frame.
