Swimming in Stilbaai area during December

I will be in Stilbaai for two weeks during the December holidays. I am training for 70.3 ! Where can I swim ? Obviously the sea is an option, but I do not want to do that alone and don't really know where.

The river is great also nic to flat down / up with the tide.

Also good cycling up along the river.

Few years ago someone was taken there by a shark.

 

I would def stay away from any spot where there's a river exiting in the ocean.

There was 2 attacks on surfers near Jongensfontein about 2 years ago, nothing near the river I know of. Would think the river is fairly safe, a lot of people swim there. Think you are more at risk from motorboats hitting you!
