Reciprocal trail membership - workable solutions

Recommended Posts

So, as the topic alludes...how can this work?

My example comes from the golfing fraternity: I'm a member at club X...I play there most of my weekends...but my club is affiliated /or have a reciprocal agreement with another club(s) in the area where I can play (not free?) at a reduce rate and vice versa....

I would like to hear some constructive examples and or ideas that can work...i'll be attending a meeting soon where this will be discussed and we are looking for a workable solution...that benefits all.

Keep in mind - certain trails are privately operated / certain ones are Govm't concessions (MTO forestry) / or public money / or a farm consortium...how do you distribute the income fairly? without a heavy administrative effort?

It would be a brilliant concept. But I believe it could lead to increased riding fees as there would are then a number of parties to be paid.

Increased fees could chase away the very source of your income

No one have an opinion on this?

Although I don't really make use of it, there is really nothing wrong with your concept. Many types of clubs have that system in place and on the whole it would be financially benificial to your club. As you know visiting members pay a small premium or in some cases it is at no additional cost at all.

If your 'product' is A+ you will benifit.

In the yachting world many clubs run this rule, all you have to do on arrival is present your paid-up membership card and you get the same benifits as the local club members. I have used this system in DBN, PE, East London and even Barcelona, Spain. The latter had no reciprocal agreement with my home club, however, I was allowed to use the facilities free for one afternoon!

You have a good idea, hope you succeed!

Thanks Ed!!

Just testing the waters here...

Pity not all MTB clubs / groups ARE AFFILIATED TO ONE BIG PROVINCIAL BODY...That way, it might have been easier to negotiate the waters perhaps. :whistling: :whistling:

Maybe this is a concept that a central organisation could administer.....? (As already mentioned)

If your club is affiliated to "them" then as a package you get 10% discount at selected bike shops or online stores and discounted entry fee at certain parks country wide.

Edit: On a micro level perhaps an agreement with a supplier or two and a bike park for riding benefits to members?
