I got myself new Cycling glasses today. The Optic Set by D'Arcs. They havae a set of dark lenses and a set wityh clear lenses as well as a optic insert. Went to the optomotrist today and will have them next week..... cannot wait to read what is on the Polar again. They are cheap as well, cost less than R400-00.

Nice, I have a pair of D'Arcs myself. They have been the best, longest lasting and cheapest sunglasses I've had.

All the others either broke from being sat on, lenses scratched too easily or the side arms broke.

Oh yeah my D'Arcs seem to virtualy never fog up in cold weather unless you turn your head to the side to look back.

I bought mine at the local LBS. My optometrist sells Rudy Projects. He compared them and his remark was that this is a classic case of where local is better!!!!!! He (and I assume he is the specialist) was very impressed and he might stock them now in the future as well.

Rudy Projects are awesome, particularly the Rydon which I ride with.Their prescription inserts work extremely well, and can be clipped out of one frame and into another. If you shopping for glasses, this is the way to go!!

when could still use contacts i used d'arcs and they were great but now i have to have inserts. i had bolle's and loved them but they dissappeared in my 2006 'shova crash and i now have Rudy's and they seriously are the best i've ever had. the inserts are great with no funny reflections etc, and i've dropped them and no scratches at all. that was the only prob with the d'arcs - thye do scratch (though not as bad as bondi blus etc)

Speaking of sunglasses - is it best to wear Plastic lenses or glass?

I currently ride with a pair of Silhouettes - they are the lightest things - and don't fall off my face when I sweat - but they have glass lenses!

Good or bad?

Depends on the plastic. Depends on the glass.

In general polycarbonate (the plastic in most lenses) won't shatter (and splinter on impact). Glass is more likely to shatter, but the lenses could be toughened to reduce this risk. You can also get plastics that are brittle and fracture easily.

mickeymoo, please go get a good set of sports specific plastic lensed glasses asap. if you fall or if a passing vehicle throws a stone in your face or if you take a sharp corner and a branch catches you in the face and you have glass lenses you're in serious trouble. i made that mistake when horse riding with ray bans many years ago and have sworn to never repeat it nor to knowingly let someone else suffer that way.

I use Adidas Evil Eye Pro.

The ONLY reason was that they fit my face better than any other. I seem to have ears attached high up on my head and my nose has a lowish bridge. The net result is that most glasses (everything from D'Arcs to Oakley, bolle, Rudi etc) tend to face downwards and rest uncomfortably on my cheeks.

The Adidas has adjustable arms which sorts out the angle and adjustable nose pieces which keep the glasses off my check bones.

Good or bad?
....more important is are they cut or bent into shape???

Who stocks Rudy Project in the JHB North area?

Cyclelab. I know the optomotrist in Cresta (opposite Look and Listen) also stocks them. R2100 for the pair I want with no prescriptions. OUCH!
