I commute from boskruin to rivonia road , start at 04:50 normally. Concur with statement that pedestrians are more dangerous than cars...

Especially if they have a cellphone or earphones...

I find the dangerous section is last km of jg strydim before turning onto malibongwe and mid section of republic where there are no paving to ride..

Did the ride on MTB today, CR Swart is very quick on the bike until the nasty bump over Malibongwe, lots of wide pavement to stay away from cars. Some fun single track next to the roads as well. Will give it a try later this week.

Only thing that worries me are the big intersections (Malibongwe/CR Swart, Dover/Bram Fischer, 11th/Grayston/West), but I think I will be fine as long as I stay awake and keep an eye on the motorists and taxis, problem being those coming from behind and turning left.

Do you mean last km of CR Swart? JG Strydom is between John Vorster and Hendrik Potgieter.

Any specific Reason for sticking to the Major Routes?

Sorry ment hans schoeman... Past virgin active.

Nah just use main routes as i normally go very early

The Hans Schoeman climb seems intense (even in my car), I use that route to work every day, but you are probably long gone by 5:10 when I go through there.

Decided to do the full commute tomorrow, 19km to work, and another 19km home. The afternoon commute with traffic is worrying me a bit, but sidewalks it will be for the most part. If all goes well I may do it again on Friday!

No SS for me (yet), need to get plenty stronger.

Was tempted to go to work on the bicycle this morning and decided that wet clothes will not be fun (just in case the plastic bags didn't do their job too well). What I did do is take the bike to work with me, and then cycled home this afternoon. Was a nice ride, traffic was good and some of the motorists actually give you a good gap while passing. And there was some interesting single track (or rather "voetpadjies") next to some of the roads, was fun!

Tomorrow I will have to cycle to work (to work and then bring the car and bike back home). At least I do not have to drag the shoes along, left them at work this afternoon!

And I took the ride to work this morning, man was it fast! Great fun! Just need breakfast.

Commuting Tip:

Make sure you pack your size jock, ones used by 8 year olds are way to small, free willy is not fun (think I will go home early today).

I saw a guy riding in John Vorster on SS in the rain, thought it was you.

Also cycled in this morning - from Northwold to Bram fischer. Fantastic ride.. The backpack is still killing me on the climbs though.

It just makes you stronger

There is a thread about this in the Commuting forum.  Leave the shower goodies at work. That will save space.  Wrt to the big lunch box ... buy a bigger bag.
