lone.* Posted January 12, 2014 Share What was the organisers thinking. At the start the front of the bunch was facing west and the back half east. When a group started the back of the group had to make a very tight 360 degree while the front portion sped down the road. The rules announced an 3 km neutral zone at the start which the lead vehicle will enforce. WHAT LEAD VEHICLE THERE WAS NONE. Presenting club's riders sped of the front leaving no chance for a bunch or even fair start. Was this proudly planned by the presenting club? Please enforce the rules you make and also the GNC, CSA and UCI rules especially when you race in age categories. No prize money for R 190 entry fee. Given the winners bottles of wine is so wrong. BarHugger Posted January 12, 2014 Share That was yesterday' s road event. The Druiwefees MTB event at Sondela was however very enjoyable. No stress, country feeling, no dust, some mud and loose sand and a nice track. Post-race recovery next to pool with fellow riders and friends........legend. Bateleur1 Posted January 13, 2014 Share I enjoyed the road event. I suppose I did not expect much and it is not the same as it used to be in the old days. But the roads were in not too bad shape. The wind was a bugger. My only gripe was the motorbike marshal who thought that the most appropriate way of forcing the bunch to the left of the road was to slam the bike to a dead stand still and almost whipping out the whole 40+ bunch. There are safer ways of getting the guys to stick to the left of the road.
David Marshall Posted January 13, 2014 Share I had a good hard ride in the 50 plus bunch. These age group races are always a bit hectic at the start because no matter how strong you are or what you ride you all start together so it is easy to get delayed by a fun rider or MTB etc. Get to the start early. I didn't know about the neutral zone but in all my time of riding I can only recall once having a vehicle in the neutral zone for any bunch other than the elites. On the whole I thought the race was well run.
ER24 Road Rangers Posted January 13, 2014 Share Unfortunately the Road Rangers was not on duty at this race. Another outfit marshalled on their bikes. We did however, cycle the 50km route in showing our support for the sport. I tell you, I take my hat off to you guys. I was very tired after the 50km, and the wind nearly killed me... My time was 01:55 over 50km, I recon that I was not too bad. The roads where really quiet, the road surface was a bit rough at times, especially the sections where potholes was filled up. Hopefully we will be able to secure the marshalling for next year. Will see you guys at The Fast One..

I have never before felt that it was required that I had to complain about the motorbike marshals and I really do appreciate what the guys do. But this idiot was endangering our lives. I understand the bunch was moving over the white line and yes the guys must move over but there are safe and effective ways of achieving this without endangering everybody.
