Hey everyone.

I'm wondering if those boot mounted bike racks with the rubbers damage the car at all?

My car doesn't have a towbar or fold down seats....

It depends on which one you get. But if your car, or the rack are dusty........ you'll be sure to scratch your paintwork. I have actually added soft foam rubber to the legs that clamp to the boot. too early to tell if it is the solution, but we'll have to see.

I use the BNB rack with the sponges/rubbers and found that if the rack is not secured tight enough it can chafe if dirt gets between the rubber and the body of the car.

What I ended up doing was getting the car polished and then sticking white insulation tape (the car is white) in a square where the rubbers are position and then mounted the rack. Just to be safe.

I use it on my Polo with no complaints. Have driven from Kimberley to Cape Town and back in a Polo with a hatchback, no problems. I drove from Kimberley to Knysna in a Jetta with a boot, also with no problems or complaints (except your petrol usage sucks) .
