Actually you have to look at it from another angle. Its not their races that I have a problem with or the tracks or the venues or that is not enduro enough. That can all be changed.

Its much deeper. Yes they start on time or at the latest 5 min late and cancel 2 stages of a 5 stage enduro so not so bad. That aside, the difference to me is whats behind it all.

On the one side you have a company, people to make money off others and give them back as little as possible. They take home a nice pay check at the end of the month.

On the other side you have 3 or 4 people working there asses off to grow a sport with no budget, putting their heart and soul into trying to make it bigger and better. They do it for the love of the sport, not a pay check at the end of the month, not a thank you, or a name, nothing. They give more to the sport than people know, their own time, their own money, their own race runs. And then if things run a bit late everyone is up in arms? They are not doing it because this is the new golf...this is enduro.

Sometimes you have to think of which way things will go in a few years time. And then who to back and where to put your money.

So much fail in this post

To add to Nico's comment, and to counter both Hanco and Duane's retorts to my intentionally snide remark:

&@$ socialism. This whole debate is yet another solid example of why capitalism is the best system we currently have. It's underlyingly the same principles at play which had the "we do it for free, we support the scene, you're being mean!" crowd shoot me down a year or two ago when I said "screw supporting the LBS at all costs, I'll buy bike commodities from whoever supplies them at the best price". I still stand by that. The fact that you're volunteers means nothing (really, nothing) to me when I enter an event. If you can't make it work efficiently and profitably (and have to cry about that every time), then maybe you shouldn't be doing it.

I don't think it's unfair to complain even when there's no profit involved. As I said, it's not free for me so I am entitled to a legitimate expectation of some measure of professionalism.

The trails at WP are sick. Really awesome. But there are organisational wrinkles that need ironing asap.

Then Nico, if you are so big mouth why don't you get involved and also sacrifice your sleeping late on a Sunday morning? why don't you sacrifice your race run? why don't you drive your own vehicle and petrol out to get the events going? why don't you put your own money into running these events so others can have fun? please tell me why? or are you also just another golfer?

Dude, WP provincial "gravity" events have had general crappy organising since I can remember. I'm talking from experience 15 years back to now. Meurant's involvement at times way back was just about the only saving grace.

No, he's a consumer and a capitalist, just like most of us. Why don't you get involved with servicing your own car next time it gives you hassles instead of complaining to the dealership?

So much venom.

He's one of the okes paying you, helping to make these events more sustainable. Your customer, effectively. Piss off the customers and you go nowhere.

It's the same thing we tried to get parks to understand wrt our mandate to produce trail on tokai, and why we try to continually motivate new trail and allow the use if different materials

How about you start riding more and not piss and moan on everyone, maybe then you wont fall off your bike as often?

Doesn't look like you're getting this...

As Mayhem has said: you deliver value, people pay. You don't, people go elsewhere. Guess how I'm going to be voting?

the problem with the world today, you can easily sit behind your keyboard and be big mouth, but when it comes down to doing the hard work everyone "verdwyn soos mis voor die son"

It would be much better if everyone could actually offer something, their help or time and so on. I would gladly do it, Omega does it too, builds trails, so does PhillipV. But to just sit behind a keyboard and moan would not get you anywhere, get involved, be part of the sport, help it grow.

I'll carry on doing them all, if I can. For some of them though, I'll pack my jacket and primus stove so I can set up a coffee stand for the 90 minute wait at the top.

I think it's a bit unfair to imply that Meurant and Arina are ripping people off and making HUGE money off of it.

They have both done an immense amount for the good of Mountain biking in South Africa, a lot at THEIR cost.

Out of curiosity how much did the WPDH Enduro cost?

Being a paid participant in a sport and getting your mates to come along, change their riding category and trying to improve it through post event suggestions isn't considered as growing the sport anymore!?

Myles you don't represent TokaiMTB in any way shape or form so please stop with the "we" bull****. You tried to get elected and you were rejected.

Remember?

As far as the other guys.

1. Please remember that Hanco is doing this for free

2. Without his efforts there would be very few of the races we've all been frothing for.

3. No one is stopping anyone on here to attempt to organize their own enduro race

4. It's the first season of this type of racing so there are bound to be a few teething problems

5. the delays at other gravity events are usually the result of the riders themselves. Trying to squeeze out another run and delaying everyone else or ending themselves and having a medic attend to them.

The guys needs support. If you want to make things better get involved.
