Seriously, yesterday (Sunday) I must have seen at least 10 people cycling on the M3 between UCT and Muizenberg. Going both ways, head down, on their OWN. Of the ones I could see, they were all proudly displaying their 2013 Argus number (sticker) on their helmets.

It’s the time to train for the Argus but guys really, the M3 is not the place to do this. The few out there are giving everyone a bad name. It also just happens to be illegal. Please tell your mates who are taking the bikes out the shed from April 2013, to be more careful (and cleverer <_< )

Think most used this road to get to the race.

....still doesn't make it right!

No No. This was late afternoon, 15h00 and heading toward Muizenberg near Kirstenbosch. Others all along the way. Definitely NOT the race. or they were VERY late.

Between Newlands and Wynberg it is legal to cycle there AFAIK (it's not a freeway anymore). From the top of Wynberg hill onwards it's illegal

I think that's correct yes.

No No. This was late afternoon, 15h00 and heading toward Muizenberg near Kirstenbosch 1 of the riders going up Wynberg hill on the corner of Edinburgh and Hillwood Road. Others all along the way to Muizenberg. Definitely NOT the race. or they were VERY late.. Point is that its dangerous, not only for the cyclist (I am one) but for the drivers of the cars. ( I am also one)

AFAIK, up Edinburgh drive till the turn off to Wynberg it still fair game. After that it turns into freeway and is illegal.

TPBike, this is what I was referring to (it looks like you misinterpreted me).

Obviously, riding on a freeway/highway like you saw people doing is really stupid and should never be done (so yes, I agree with you fully). Myself and Flowta's point was clarification that not the entire M3 is a freeway. I for example often ride up Edinburgh Drive from the Bowwood intersection, and then turn into Bishopscourt. Further than that would be unwise.

Correct.
