No. Not grease. That's terrible. Rather something like copperslip, and then only a light coating.

My bad. You are right, copperslip it is. I couldn't remember what it was called.

Maintenance trick 101 for loosening both right and left pedals:

When standing behind the bike (straddling rear wheel), put any crankarm to be worked on in 1-2 o'clock position. Place spanner/hex key so that it runs in same direction as crankarm (next to crankarm) towards BB centre. Pushing down on tool (spanner/hex key) will loosen pedals, does not matter which side. Pulling tool towards you will fasten pedals. You can also use the crankarm as a grip support to generate torque on tool.

Easy as pie......down to loosen, up to thighten.

To be technical, Copaslip is a type of grease.

Copper is added to some greases for high pressure applications, or where corrosion could prevent dis-assembly of components later in their service life. Copaslip is the registered trademark of one such grease produced by Molyslip Atlantic Ltd, and has become a generic term (often misspelled as "copperslip" or "coppaslip") for anti-seize lubricants which contain copper.

But I do agree. Copaslip is generally better than a lithium or sodium grease for threads.

One exception to this is if you have a thread where the grease for the thread might mix with grease for a bearing, e.g. the thread for the cone on a wheel bearing. In this case, I just use the same grease on the thread as the bearing.
