Thanks for the advise guys but what I really want is a 100% manually operated mechanism, I know it sounds a bit dorf when I cold use the seatclamp but it's not fast and accurate enough. I want a basic dropper Seatpost that keeps the saddle correctly orientated forward/center, has a high and low point adjustment and lock/unlocks easily and holds tightly. I don't need auto return or remote actuators etc, just something I can drop or lift in a split second, virtually like a Seatpost in a Seatpost but with a more complex locking mechanism(which a frame mounted Seatpost clamp obviously can't incorporate) and a way to manage the high and low limits.

Are there any Seatpost sizes that fit into each other, ie slip into each other with almost a machine fit?

Some kind of aluminum extrusion may work from a furling gear.

Cool, looks like a Gravity Dropper Descender is what you require, but it is outside your stated budget though:

That would be the solution but not cheap at around R2500, people say they last forever though 10yrs etc and still going strong , so maybe still very good value for money.

Yeah, the exchange rate buggers us big time. I remember that the Gravity Dropper Descender was available at CRC for R 1600.00 not too long ago.

Have a look at the Forca dropper posts.

I don't have much info but I believe the are spring operated.

See here:

It's identical to the Ice-lift V8.

Which is a copy of the Gravity Dropper with the remote. Nice thing about both the Forca and the Ice-lift is that cable doesn't exit the post at 90 degrees.

Has 3 settings: fully extended, 1/4 down and fully down.

Skylark just get a proper dropper.

Can get Gaint for +- R1500

From what I have heard they can only be serviced at Giant, ie not DIY at home or any where else, and if any thing serious breaks out of warranty they only good for the bin.
