Hakahana Enduro

HAKAHANA TRAILS

Recommended Posts

My first time out at Hakahana on Saturday,

50m into the first run (SP1) I hit a rock, bent the crankarm, snapped the chiain & ripped through the rear deraileur cable. Had to single speed it out of there and did SP 2 without a chain (took it off just in case of more damage)

Luckily I hooked up with some awesome people who helped me out with spares etc.

Bike shop repairs = R2650

Confidence level = 0.

welcome to Hakahana, it can really bite when it wants to, but we wouldn't have it any other way

hope to see you at champs weekend

I'm looking at getting into enduro but only have a HT atm. Will this be OK for the courses? I'm not going to go at bullet speed just want to have fun

Bring it - have fun... there are B lines on most obstacles so you should be ok - most likely there will be a few other hard tails there too, and possibly a specific class for them

Do you need a full face helmet?

Would love to come this weekend but might only make Saturday.

Or wait until next year.

My hard tail is XC based [emoji19]

No you don't need a full-face. A lot of guys (including some top blokes still ride without). Its a personal preference and depends on the speed you expect to ride at. Come get a taster. We are offering R250 entry for those that can only ride one day.

Fun you will have. A lot of guys don't realise how much fun the transitions are too.

As for the rides down..... you'll love it. If in doubt, just get off and run down a section, and take the B lines. Be safe and ride within yourself. Watch others do it.

To everyone who did NOT attend champs this past weekend....

YOU MISSED OUT!!!

This was the best event for the year BY FAR!!!

Meeting Wyn Masters was just a bonus...The trails, Race SP's... everything was so perfectly selected. It was the perfect weekend of riding!

Howzit guys

I know this isn't entirely hashtag-Enduro - however... I'm planning and organising this 12 hour lap racing event at Hakahana with assistance from Johan. It's also going be a year end party of note.

Being trail riders ourselves and knowing the frustrations we experience with most endurance type of events - we've designed a course to cater for all skill levels. Taking what we have learned from designing enduro trails we have created at 5km route with multiple lines everywhere: uphills, downhills, through rock gardens etc. There are A, B and sometimes even C lines so little chance of being held up.

This also helps those riders who worry about getting through technical sections safely or holding up fast, experienced riders on climbs and descents.

Imagine heading off on your first lap only to see a couple of slower guys about to enter the forest section of single track ahead of you. But hang on, there's an alternative black line off to the left with a drop and a berm to send you pumping through on a different course and out in front of the guys taking the green. Routes up the slight climbs diverge (probably 75m ascent per lap), thus limiting congestion and allowing those xc machines to come into their own. But when you get to the top of the enduro SP's you'll have 3 options:

Green: just roll and pedal your way down the flowing trail. No drops or steep descents and hardly any rocks to mention.

Red: mostly flowing and fast but with some of the smaller drops and introducing the bigger g-outs.

Black: the big drops, the bigger dips, the airtime are all there for your enjoyment.

Johan and I rode just about every variation of the route and all we can say is that the distance and times between them all are very very similar. The green descent loses about 10 seconds to the red which loses about 2 seconds to the black.

Please share this with all your buds including your xc marathon friends. It gives us a chance to show them up close what we do and shows off the easier smoother side of Hakahana. I think we might even mark the descent so everyone can go play, leartn and find the option which works best for them. The more people there, the more fun this is going to be.
