Wonder what the attrition rate was for this race?

I started quite far back on the 50 miler (about three quarters down, the front starters was already over the first little rise by the time I went through that little first gate) and did pass a fair number of riders on the route, but there definately was a lot less finishers than starters.

There was a proliferation of thorns this year, especially in the early parts of the race. I had them popping out of my tyres at regular intervals followed by streams of Stans as the tyre sealed. I stopped twice during the race to top up my tyre pressure due to the accumulated loss of each thorn popping out. Yesterday at home I must have pulled another 20 thorns out of each tyre with tweezers!

i thought as much I just didn't notice it, had to clean quite a lot of Stan's from frame & fork yesterday.

I actually never thought of pulling all the thorns out, probably a good idea if ever I have to fit a tube during a race/ride again.

Thanks so much to the organisers for only arranging/paying Oakpics for 100 Miler riders coverage. Real class of you and sends a super clear message.

Milky, disparaging the little guy, telling him/her that their efforts aren't that important. Its in the past and I'll let it be, but basically I was upset because, only if you were lucky / unlucky enough to be one of the back markers of the 50 Miler, did you have a remote chance of getting in on the Oakpics action as the 100 Milers would have started passing you and THEY were taken pics of. This we found out after the race, after going through all of their fb pics. Oakpics was only "tasked to do media cover of 100 miler". Now this might seem petty to you (not saying it does), but for someone who trains just as hard as the next guy and managed to better her time 'bietjie vir bietjie' each year, damn straight that medal and picture is important to me. I feel the 50 Milers were used (to fill in the financial gaps) and not taken seriously. Anyway, end of rant and end of story. Back to training.

its a shame & I feel your pain & frustration. Hopefully your concern will be heard & next time it be a bit better. Edited by milky4130

I'm hoping Oakpics would have more pics of the 50 miler on it's website (when its posted) and the fb page is just the highlights?

If Oakpics indeed neglected the 50 Miler riders I'm sure it's a mistake somewhere and not a deliberate snub, maybe bring it to the organisers attention so they can fix it next year. When I did the 50 miler 2 years back there were plenty of pics of the 50 miler riders.
