Bike Jacking on Cycle Lane close to Sunset Beach 22/03/2014

Good morning Hubbers

There was a bike-jacking this morning at around 07h00 on the Cycle lane close to Sunset Beach. It happened just past the Engen where the lane narrows to cross the bridge.

The events:

Guy was cycling alone and passing a ‘pedestrian’ the jacker started at him with a knife.

He fought back but let the bike go.

We (two of us) were about 70m away from them when the jacker started riding in the road towards us, we moved into the rode.

The jacker hesitated and went over the bars. We stopped approaching cars & the first car was security.

The jacker jumped of the bike and over the bridge into the vlei heading into the ‘binneland’.

The victim’s name is Simon. Iron of a little guy. Got a stab wound of about a cm in his shoulder/neck area.

We rode with him to tableview where he stays.

He’s okay and he has his bike back.

Here is the kicker:

He bought his bike Yesterday!!!!

Please be vigilant. This is crazy.

I won’t be able to respond to this thread as I have to go register for a race now.

Thanks Bushdaaif for stopping, Simon is my brother, he was at the doc earlier on and received 6 stiches for his troubles this am.. The family are so glad that you are your mate where there to assist, who knows how things could have turned out. This was is first cycle as he was having knee problems from running... What a great welcome to the sport.. He has said though this will not stop him...

On a side note Bushdaaif, this race was not the epic your talking about that you needed to register for?? If so let me buy you a beer sometime since I will be there 2..

Sunset Beach is half way between Milnerton and Table view,just north of Milnerton golf course and just after you cross over the Diep rivier.Pity the jacker did not get to practice is swimming off the top of the bridge.Pissed as this is my hood!!

+1. my neighbourhood as well. my brother rides with his kids (kiddy carrier) along this route regularly as well... not cool at all...

Do not buy fogger pepper spray, buy direct stream only. The fogger can get blown by the wind and may come into contact with ur own eyes.

This is crazy... My wife and I passed that section on the other side of the bridge and noticed a security car and was wondering what was going on. And now just spotted this post as my wife is telling me about our friend Simon who got stabbed this morning cycling there. Nooit.

 

Edit. What's even scarier is that my wife was going to ride alone this morning but I decided to be a roadie for the morning and go with. Could have been her in that situation!!

Im so GLAD that I found you, Im Simons wife and I want to thank you so much for being good Samaritans and stopping for not only stopping for my husband but also for making sure he came home safely back to me, weve only been married for over a year now and I dont know what I would have done if he didnt come home yesterday.

 

Im sure your in the EPIC today, my husbands brother James Hagen is also in the race, if you guys perhaps see this face give a shout out
