Don't mean to labour the point, and whether its the right way or not is irrelevant, registering as a local Lesotho company is the way it should be done legally. If you want to operate in Lesotho, register in Lesotho. SA applies the same rules, along with any other country in the world, with local distributers/agents/subsidiaries for international brands/business. Think Specialised, Redbull, Trek, etc... they all have their legal SA presence, and are not operating like some Chinese retailer.

Sorry for the hijack Nige... great photos and videos.

In the meantime there should definitely be an attitude of appreciation, don't just rock up and ride and act if you own the place. i'm thinking brandy and coke brigade on mozambique beaches here as an extreme example.

Unfortunately, already happening in Lesotho, hence the issues arising with foreign 'tour groups'.

I agree that for now, the attitude should be give and take, but perhaps my statements should serve as a warning to Detour that 'rogue' operators are already in the bureaucratic cross hairs of Lesotho govt and revenue authorities.

Thorn199, no clue what you on about, tourists bring money in not out!

One of Sa's big foreign currency generators , tourism. Tourists come and eat, drink, sleep all purchased with money. If they are idiots that litter, abuse the locals/customs, etc that's a reflection on them individually not tourism as a whole. And I can only assume these tours into Lesotho are 100% legal and legit as I can't see why they would not be, no need to register as a business in Lesotho unless you live there?

I think Thorn199 is partly right but he should come clean. Does he mean stay at the Thorne casa at Ramabanta? Very nice it is too mind you. Plenty tracks there too.

Yes... the Ramabanta lodge is the family's, but we don't run tours ourselves. We rely on tour groups to fill the beds. And as such, rely on the tour operators being legitimate through work permits, operating licences or local companies (we work closely with the organisers of the Lesotho Sky MTB event for cycle tours out of our lodges). Conversely, we are on the front line when it comes to issues created by rogue tours in the country, so have to deal with angry locals and govt officials when things go wrong.

End of the day, I have a huge passion for Lesotho, and wish that more and more people can experience Lesotho. Just those who wish to make a business out of it, need to do it within the legal frameworks.

Enough about this tourism, contributing to lesotho, blah blah BS.

The important question is.,... Did you mock the guy in the lycra and sleeveless shirt? :P

well then dude - take up your case with Detour directly and find out from them what they have in place ... you never know maybe they have permits etc!

I second this motion... now lets get this thread back on track!

I agree! All we should be concerned about is riding our bikes and leave the details up to detour! (I say "we" and "our" as if I'm getting an invite for the next trip) :whistling:

Yes but he was the only one with a beard so that sort of cancelled out the lycra!

He did however get a Klippies fine for the lycra ... and for being the only guy with a beard .. hahaha

Meh. Little bit too Bike Parky for my taste.

Looks stunning, I've been to Maliba Lodge in Lesotho and found it breath taking.

Would be keen to do this tour, BUT, I have to admit Id be willing to spend the extra bucks on some groomed Alps trails with man made berms, jumps etc.
