GT has always been one of those "have to have" bikes for me. So, I was in my LBS a few weeks back and saw this hanging about - price was good, and the frame is in superb condition. Let the build begin, I will post a complete pic when I'm done, just finding time is not on my side at the moment

My GT Karakoram 1.0, now almost 4 years old. LX/SLX spec. Only upgrade was the fork to a RS Sid. My son rides it these days. Bulletproof frame. These days I ride a Merida Big Nine 1000 FS,

Bought GT Zaskar 29" a few weeks ago, simply because I saw so many postive reviews on theHub and because of the great price, but had NOT such a great start to the love affair. 1st ride the chain falls to inside and scratches the frame  . The gear selectors stop working and lockout stays on. After a few quick(cheap) buys on Hub, its as good as new and in one ride on Spruit I smash 35 old records. I have owned brand new Silverback Alpine 1 26" and Momsen AL129 and this bike is light years ahead. Trouble is I keep forgetting the designer's name... Garth Turner/Grant Turner/ Gary Turner

This is my "Frankenst9ner"! Built completely from the ground up! Zaskar Pro 2012 frame.

Mix of SRAM X7, X9 , X0. Carbon flat bar and seat post for some flex. Solid Manitou Tower Pro fork with 20mm thru axle. Next will be some lighter wheels!

Handling is top class! I still have a full sus 26" and this bike is as sharp on the track!

Love my GT!

I bought a GT iDrive 4 1.0 in 2006.

Went to Cycling Experience in Helderkruin and said "I need a bike that I can do the Epic on, what's best value for money?"

"That" he said. So I bought it.

Still riding it now, two frames later - current frame is a Sensor 1.0 as they stopped making the original frame.

I love it. You can throw yourself down mountains at speeds way in excess of your talent level and the bike just soaks it up and pretty much keeps you out of trouble. Climbs just fine too.

Am still amazed at the value I got: Revelation fork (mmmm lovely plushness), XTR rear der, XT front der, XT crankset, LX shifters (ok, ok, but the work just fine), Avid Juicy 5's, DT Swiss wheels, Phizik Gobi saddle.

The main reason I don't have a 9'r is that:

a. I like riding the bike

b. I'm not sure that any of the premium brand frames will be as nice to ride. This frame doesn't bob - don't use lockouts except for the 94.7 road race, and even then, only if I remember. If you need 'brain's for your suspension and all sorts of propedal or whatever, then I suspect the frame design is not quite as good as the frame marketing.

My brother goes to a conference in Colorado every year and gets to hire whatever is new that year. Still reckons the orig iDrive that he is riding here beats the rest. Esp. the big red brand.

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on a Pyga, mainly because I think the frame will be similar to ride as this one. Will take a nice refund from the tax man to make that possible tho.

Currently looks something like this - plus a crud catcher because I got tired of mud being slung up my nose.
